You may have missed the party, but the beat goes on! Recently, the refurbished royal cruise ship The Queen Mary now docked at Long Beach, California, turned into something of a Calypso Queen.

The occasion was the exclusive, invitation-only Reggae fest party preceding the Jamaican Superstar Bob Marley Day festivities and his posthumous receipt of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The seaboard celebration was designed to resemble the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's induction ceremonies, and incorporated live entertainment and music to pay homage to the reggae greats. On this night, the once staid vessel swayed and rocked its guests during the Rastafarian romantic celebration.

In addition to the party, the Queen Mary is also hosting the world's first museum quality reggae exhibit exhibit entitled "The World of Reggae," that illustrates raggae's global influence through a spectacular collection of memorabilia gathered by author, and radio personality Roger Steffens. A culmination of Steffen's three decade long effort to chronicle Bob Marley's extraordinary and influential career, his collection includes over a thousand priceless phonographs, fliers, t-shirts, and other memorabilia that blend with raggae music in creating both an aural and visual experience.

"I've always wanted to share the six rooms of my house that are jammed full of this incredible history with the world at large. I am really grateful to Global Treasures (the curatorial firm) and the Queen Mary for providing me with the fulfillment of this dream of a lifetime," says Steffens.

The party may be just a fond memory but Steffens remarkable collection is now open to the public. For more information, please visit www.queenmary.com or call the information hotline at 562 435 3511.
