X-MEN & DISH MAGAZINE
TRAVEL BACK IN TIME!

by Raeanne Rubenstein

One day not very long ago, writer Jared Rigsby and I were alone in the office, talking about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past movie. Our conversation was about the sequences in the film involving time-travel, in which Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) leaps across 50 years into the past, without so much as blinking. It then occurred to both of us that in a certain way, we, meaning Dish Magazine, have also leapt  into the past via the o 4000+ stories we’ve created. For us however, it’s only been a 15 year leap so far, but then, we're just getting started.

In the latest film, the ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across not just one, but two time periods. In a dramatic turn of events, the characters from the original X-Men film trilogy join forces with their younger selves from X-Men: First Class in an epic battle that must change the past - to save the future.

X-men: Days of Future PastIn the meanwhile, one of our favorite Dish contributors, fashion writer Solana Hawkenson arrived on the scene, and immediately jumped into the conversation, having noticed that a brand new, highly-anticipated X-Men film, and The Amazing Spiderman 2 movies are both coming out in May! Of course, there were those two pesky Wolverine releases in 2008 and 2013 (with a third version rumored to be coming out in 2017), but of course they don’t count since there is no “X-Men” mentioned in the title.

The conversation continued, and before we could say lickety-split we found ourselves thinking about creating our own special retro issue of Dish Magazine, as a kind-of psychic companion piece to the new X-Men. It could feature some of our most awesome and unforgettable stories from the past.

We all agreed, we should do it!

Then, Jared mentioned that since the X-Men movie was about time travel, and we were interested in creating a Retro Issue - that the two ideas combined would be vastly more impactful than either of them alone. So we linked the two concepts together, sprinkled on a little seasoning to taste and voila....

Welcome to X-Men & Dish Magazine’s
very own Special Issue #158 - with each of us celebrating our very own Days of Future Past!  Enjoy!
