For those that spend more time with present-day shows like Revenge or Scandal, and wonder if they should include something a little more highbrow, PBS’ Downton Abbey still gives one that soap opera-like fix with a little history and a lot of upper-crust British accents.

Downton Abbey Cast Season 4Four seasons ago, the show touched on real-life with references to the Titanic tragedy and went through the devastation of World War II, and has shocked audiences with sudden deaths or awful tribulations of major characters. However, this Brit import endures and as it returns for a fifth season, cast members are not really talking much about what will happen for fear of spoilers (which are, of course what we all want!!!).

Here’s what we do know. A certain Lady Anstruther (Anna Chancellor, “Duckface” from Four Weddings and a Funeral for all you rom com classics aficionados) will create some trouble for Anna (Joanne Froggatt). “Anna&Bates (Brendan Coyle),” the show’s loved up in-service-to-the-rich-owners-of-Downton, will continue to wrestle with her rape and their own lies to protect each other.

Michelle Dockery

The show will pick up six months after Season Four ended and no, Lady Mary and Branson (Allen Leech), the husband of her late sister, will NOT get together romantically but they both are looking for love. “She will never get over the death of Matthew but she is moving on, so she’s embracing the changes, and the social climate. So she’s going out more, embracing the fashions and she’s enjoying herself,” Dockery said.

Now doesn’t that make you want to watch?

Speaking of Lady Mary, for those who actually do know about the extreme popularity of the actress playing her, Michelle Dockery. Here’s a little more Dish about her.........
