How to Find Your

Sense of Style?

PART ONE!

by  Moriah Hurston

Keeping up with the wild world of fashion can be quite a challenge, that often comes with a headache to match. It’s stressful enough trying to discover a trend before it becomes too trendy, or even worse “soo last month”, or you might end up becoming a fashion victim yourself. YIKES!

Many people base their look on what they see in the fashion Casual Chic Looks are always in Stylemagazines, fashion blogs or on the runway. That, as you already know, can be tiring and expensive because, as you also already know, fashion changes every day. But once you find your own sense of style, all those everyday changes don’t matter as much and become a lot easier to deal with. Finding your own style isn’t as hard as it sounds. Always keep in mind, it’s all about You and what You feel good in!

In order to truly achieve your own sense of style, you have to stop caring about the opinion of others, at least when it comes to your clothes. Remember, everyone’s sense of style is different. Think about all the things others wear that you don’t like, who obviously don’t care whether or not you like what they have on. So why should you care what others think of what you wear? If you’re constantly basing your outfits on the opinions of others, your outfits become someone else’s style, not your own. It’s one thing to be inspired by someone else’s style, but it’s another to copy it. Your style defines who you are! Don’t let anybody else EVER take that away from you.

Here’s one very important thing to always keep in mind. We are our own biggest critics! Once you stop criticizing everything you do in a negative way, you can finally be who you truly are, because confidence is key when it comes to finding your sense of style.

Add some FLARE to your wardrobe

Also, don't take yourself too seriously, because it’s okay to make mistakes. After all, we are human and humans are prone to making mistakes, at least at some point in their lives. You might look back in a few years and wonder why on earth you were wearing that, but it’s okay. Let your style be anMix Fabric textures- like polka dots with leather extension of who you are at that moment, and do what works for you and makes you feel more confident in who you are. When you feel good in your clothes, you emit confidence!

Once you’ve truly found your confidence, wear whatever makes you feel like yourself. There are a great many rules when it comes to fashion, but remember, rules are meant to be broken. If you feel good about mixing patterns, go for it. If you want to dress like Hello Kitty, no one is stopping you. Having that sense of freedom helps you develop your true style even more as you grow older and wiser.

Just as fashion changes over time, so
will your sense of style. Explore the many styles that together make up the fashion world! Whether it’s modern day or vintage style, you can find inspiration everywhere. Also, be sure to check out some blogs on pages like tumblr or instagram, where people are continuously posting their #ootd (outfit of the day), which could spark something in you. Take style quizzes online, and let your inspiration change from day to day. Even what you’re feeling on any given day can become your inspiration. Stay in touch with who you are and how you feel. Remember, changing things up every now and then doesn’t mean you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s just a change in mood and who you are becoming!

Bold Statement Peices are always easy to incorporateDon’t base everything you do off of what is trendy at that moment. Trends come and go over time like a cycle, but you have to be careful. Trends are NOT  for everyone. Don’t feel obligated to participate in a trend because that is not what’s in for the time being. You don’t have to buy that dress because it’s the new happening thing, or it may have looked good on that girl in the magazine and your co-worker who seems to stay up-to-date with what’s in and what’s not, but is it really your thing?

The idea may seem great, but will you really get good use out of it? Or will it just hang in the back of your closet until you come across it while spring-cleaning? Don’t waste money on the idea of things, and instead stay true to who you really are. If you’re struggling with that, go back to the basics. Take your basic pieces that you feel comfortable with, that make you feel like yourself, and add a bit of flare. Add pieces from whatever style you identity with, or however you’re feeling that day, and turn basic into fun, chic or sexy. Add a signature leather jacket if you’re a badass, or a big floppy hat if you’re a diva and you know it. For a simpler look, throw in a statement piece like a cute necklace or handbag that is a little more versatile.

Style with bold silver accents

After you’ve found what you feel most confident in, start your own blog, even if you just keep it for your own reference. Today’s outfit might inspire another outfit two months from now. Continue to do your research on online blogs, or while you’re out and about. If you see something you like, make a note of it or go ask the person wearing it where they got it. That person might be flattered that you asked, and lead you to a whole new world of fashion.

Style is an extension of who you are.
Be bold and confident, even on your darkest days and stay true to who you are.

Fashion comes and goes, but style is forever!
