The leaves on the trees have fallen, and the temperature has dropped to that special place the poets call “crisp.” What better time to decorate your house, trudge from store to store shopping in the bitter frost, cook extravagant feasts, and fill your life with long visits from extended family members, right?

Well, regardless, the retail community has already hung wreathes and begun piping themed ballads from Celine Dion and Natalie Cole – and unless you want to go stir crazy, you have to do something to keep your sanity. And nothing says “Home For the Holidays” like a shot of vodka.

What this year’s festivities need, however, is to celebrate togetherness, and slipping into the liquor closet by yourself is a one-way ticket to Betty Ford. So, bring the spirit and the spirits out to the table with some seasonal shooters and party to a different tune.

Pumpkin Piepimpkin pie shooter

½ oz Bailey’s Irish Cream

½ oz Goldschlagger cinnamon schnapps

½ oz Kahlua coffee liqueur

To start out the festivities, rejoice with this concoction while you wait for the bird to pop out of the oven. Combine the above ingredients and chill in a shaker with ice. Pour into shot glasses and top them with a dollop of whipped cream.

Cranberry Sauce(d)cranberry shooter

2 pkgs cranberry-flavored gelatin

1 btl Finlandia Cranberry Fusion vodka

1 lime

It has been said that the Jell-O shot has reached its prime, and it is always a challenge to avoid those annoying cocktail waitresses while dancing the night away. But this seasonal gelatin shooter is the perfect pair for the fall harvest, and will make that common canned Thanksgiving sauce just a bit saucier.

Follow the specific instructions on the pack of gelatin, because certain measurements could keep your shot from gelling. Remember that you are making two batches and to double the measurements. In place of the cold water in the recipe, pour the cranberry vodka instead. After the solution has been completely mixed, squeeze the juice from the lime, complete a final stir and pour into the plastic cups. Refrigerate until the gelatin is firm, and enjoy.

Girl Scout Cookiegirl scout cookie shooter

½ oz Kahlua coffee liqueur

½ oz Bailey’s Irish Cream

½ oz Rumplemintz peppermint schnapps

For legal reasons, the specific cookie is not mentioned, but this thin cookie would hit the spot – if only there were some left in your freezer. Since the only remnant of this delightful treat is the empty green box, try this delicious shot until the little ones return to your door in January.

Before making the shots, chill all of the ingredients in the freezer. Using a speed pourer, slowly pour the Kahlua down the inside edge of the shot glass. Apply the same pouring method to the Irish cream, and finally with the schnapps. The effect will be three distinct layers in the shot glass – and a frosted delight as the ingredients combine on the tongue.

Candy Canecandy cane shooter

1 oz Goldschlagger

1 oz Rumplemintz

This simple mixture of Goldschlagger and Rumplemintz should be shaken over ice and poured into a very special shot glass. Amazon.com has candy cane shot glasses, literally made of candy and 100-percent edible. Unleash the inner kid in your family and then devour the evidence.

Oatmeal Cookieoatmeal cookie shooter

½ oz butterscotch schnapps

½ oz Bailey’s Irish Cream

splash of Jagermeister herbal liqueur

splash of Goldschlagger cinnamon schnapps

This is another layered shot, and must be made by slowly adding the ingredients, in order, down the side of the shot glass. The splash of Jager must be on the bottom, then the butterscotch schapps; then the Irish cream. Finally, float the Goldschlagger on top. After the initial burn, your senses will be filled with warm thoughts of your mother’s oven, opening on a cold winter night.

Gingerbread Mangingerbread shooter

1 oz Bailey’s Irish Cream

½ oz butterscotch schnapps

½ oz Goldschlagger cinnamon schnapps

What’s more fun than gathering the little ones together and seeing their faces light up as they create their own cookie-shaped-man that springs to life in their candy-coated hands? Combine the above ingredients, shake, strain, pour and find out the answer.

One great thing about these shots is that they utilize the same ingredients. To jumpstart your seasonal party, only a few bottles can bring a variety of baked goodies, candied treats and a nice buzz. Just remember to drink responsibly and share the warmth of a seasonal shooter. Happy Holidays!
