Once Upon A Time, I was married to an Interior Designer. He was very much from the "Less Is More" school of modern design, and held any other kind of architecture or decorating in great contempt. For him, everything had to be sleek, modern, and uncluttered, to be worth bothering with. And though he is long gone from my life, his taste in design definitely rubbed off on me.

Thus it was with great enthusiasm that I decided to attend the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.

The ICFF consists of a stellar roster of more than 600 designers, manufacturers, and representatives of contemporary furnishing companies from 25 countries. There is inventive design from Estonia to Italy to Jersey City, designers from Philippe Starck (Ian Schrager Hotels) to Winka Dubbeldam (faceted glass structures) to Britain's Ross Lovegrove (organic minimalism), and intriguing items from inventive bathroom fixtures (glass sinks) to witty sofas, chairs and accessories.

If your favorite space needs something of a redo (look around, be honest!)- think stylish, sleek, witty, fun.yup, think modern! / Issue 24 - September 4797
