This is the first of a series of articles dedicated to women musicians who devote their life to their music. In some cases, they sacrifice everything to stay out on the road, remaining single or sometimes loveless, or without a home and family. Some women bring their man or children along, leading a peripatetic, interesting yet often hand-to-mouth life. Some find love where they can get it. You might recognize some of their names, or you might not. Some of the more interesting are more obscure, with a strictly local following. But two things unite them, and gains them entry into this series- first comes the music, then the ordinary pleasures of life. And secondly, although their music is completely different, one from the other, each woman is uniquely, amazingly, gifted. What’s it really like for them out there in the cold, hard world? Here are some of their stories……..
